Treaty One Territory, Winnipeg – With the 2025 federal election campaign now underway, Grand Chief Kyra Wilson of the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs (AMC) is calling on all federal parties to reflect the rights, priorities and leadership of First Nations in their platforms and commitments.

“This election must not be about promises. It must be about full recognition and implementation of Treaty rights, First Nations jurisdiction and our inherent right to govern ourselves,” said Grand Chief Wilson.

The AMC is calling on all parties to commit to working in full partnership with First Nations in Manitoba, in ways that recognize and respect First Nations laws, responsibilities and systems of governance. This includes action on Treaty Land Entitlements, revenue sharing, health transformation, MMIWG and the full realization of First Nations-led housing, education, infrastructure, and emergency services.

“Our Nations are leading,” Grand Chief Wilson added. “We uphold our laws. Our youth are rising. Our Elders continue to guide us. What we need now is a government that listens, learns and upholds its responsibilities through partnership.”

In the coming weeks, AMC will continue to engage federal candidates and party leaders to ensure First Nations voices are not only heard but reflected in the decisions that shape the next Parliament.

The AMC is also launching a Rock the Vote campaign to ensure First Nations citizens are fully informed, supported and ready to participate in this election.

“First Nations have always shaped this country,” said Grand Chief Wilson. “This election is an opportunity for Canada to act with respect and for all voters to recognize the strength, vision and leadership already being carried by our Nations.”
