Treaty One Territory, Manitoba – The Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs (AMC) offers support and condolences to the family, friends and Nation of the first First Nation COVID-19 death.

AMC Grand Chief Arlen Dumas offered, “It is with a heavy heart that I learned of the news that there has now been a First Nation citizen who has died due to COVID-19 complications. I offer my most heartfelt condolences and love to all those grieving the passing of this individual and offer any and every support I can. It is not easy to lose a loved one, especially in the midst of this global pandemic, but I know that all communities will join together to support each other through this hard time. We will figuratively stand together, while actually being apart, and no one will feel alone. We are all in this together.”

“While we grieve, I want to remind all Nations, to keep up with your COVID-19 protocols. Remind each other that we must stay vigilant in the fight against COVID-19. Wash your hands regularly, stay home when you are ill, wear a mask, stay socially distanced and remember and respect the Northern Travel Ban restrictions. We must collectively support each other and bring a united fight against this pandemic. Together we will get through this. Together, while still apart, but always as a team.”
