Treaty One Territory, Manitoba _ Grand Chief Arlen Dumas congratulates the Chiefs of British Columbia and the BC provincial government on tabling legislation meant to legally implement the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP).
“This legislation is meant to provide a framework for the province to align its laws with the standards of the UN declaration — something First Nation people have long been advocating for in B.C. and across the country,” said Grand Chief Arlen Dumas. “We are happy for those that are being recognized in their traditional territories and raising the standards of living for their people.”
The bill will ensure all provincial laws are aligned with the declaration, often referred to as UNDRIP, which will require Indigenous Peoples are included in all decision-making that impacts their rights.
