Treaty One Territory, MB. _ The Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs (AMC) hosted a town hall event on Monday with federal political candidates providing a platform to discuss how First Nation issues will be addressed in the October 21 election.

First Nations citizens had the opportunity to submit questions online and ask questions to candidates face-to-face during the event that took place at the RBC Convention Centre.

“The influence of our citizens and their voices cannot be ignored this federal election,” said Grand Chief Arlen Dumas. “First Nation issues must be at the forefront of every party platform. The Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs will continue to provide an outlet for First Nations citizens to engage with federal candidates before they cast their vote in October.”

Federal political party representatives at the event were: Cyara Bird of the Conservative Party of Canada; Dan Vandal of the Liberal Party of Canada; Kyle Mason of the New Democratic Party; and James Beddome of the Green Party of Canada. Also in attendance was Kathy Guimond-Doyle, an independent candidate in the riding of Winnipeg North.

“I want to thank everyone who came out and those who were engaged on our Facebook and YouTube live feed,” said Grand Chief Dumas. “When our collective voices are heard, we send a strong message that can change the outcome of an election.”
