AMC Congratulates Newly Elected Grand Chief Michael Birch of Anisininew Okimawin

Treaty One Territory, Winnipeg – The Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs (AMC) extends sincere congratulations to Grand Chief Michael Birch on his election as Grand Chief of the Anisininew Okimawin (AO). The election, which took place from August 28 to 29 in Garden Hill, Red Sucker Lake, St. Theresa Point, Wasagamack, and Winnipeg, saw seven members of the AO First Nations put their name forward for the Grand Chief position.
“I am eager to collaborate with Grand Chief Birch to address the key issues affecting the Anisininew Nations and to advance their goals and aspirations over the next three years,” said AMC Grand Chief Cathy Merrick. “I believe in the power of our Nations and the integrity of our respective mandates. I know that by working together, we will protect the interests and rights of all First Nations in Manitoba.”
The AMC and its member Nations are dedicated to supporting Grand Chief Birch as he assumes the office of AO. The Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs is also committed to pursuing political strategies that enable unified action across Manitoba First Nations and their organizations. “Together, alongside Grand Chief Birch, we will continue to advocate for the rights and interests of First Nations throughout Manitoba, working in partnership to advance our shared goals,” concluded AMC Grand Chief Merrick.
