Treaty One Territory – Winnipeg, Manitoba _ The Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs (AMC) congratulates Kevin G. Anderson on his new position as the interlocutor to lead the transformation process for the Freshwater Fish Marketing Corporation (FFMC).

Today, the Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard, the Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson announced that Kevin G. Anderson will serve as the dedicated interlocutor, to lead the next steps in the transformation process of the Freshwater Fish Marketing Corporation. The appointment came as part of a recommendation in the Advisory Panel’s Final Report: Transformation of the Freshwater Fish Marketing Corporation, released in July of 2019.

“On behalf of the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs, I would like to congratulate Kevin Anderson on his new role to lead the work of transformation for the Freshwater Fish Marketing Corporation,” said Grand Chief Arlen Dumas. “Major changes are needed to ensure that harvesters are properly consulted and given an opportunity to thrive. As we seek to address the many challenges of First Nations harvesters, I trust that our relationship will be both collaborative and constructive. It is our expectation that the outcome of this process will lead to solutions that will promote economic prosperity for First Nations and recognize Aboriginal and Treaty rights. The result of this work will bring these plans to act as a roadmap for First Nations, DFO and other government sectors to better manage fisheries using policies and methods that lower barriers to accessing domestic and international markets for fish and fish products. I look forward to working closely with Anderson and wish him the very best on this important undertaking.”
