AMC Chiefs-in-Assembly Elect New Grand Chief Kyra Wilson

Treaty One Territory, Winnipeg – Today, the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs (AMC), held a Special Chiefs Assembly today, including a by-election to elect a new Grand Chief. The election was overseen by Chief Electoral Officer Stephanie Conners.
Candidates included Leroy Constant, Bava Dhillon, Glenn Hudson, and Kyra Wilson. In the first round, 61 votes were cast, with results as follows:
- Leroy Constant: 10 votes
- Bava Dhillon: 10 votes
- Glenn Hudson: 4 votes
- Kyra Wilson: 37 votes
The AMC congratulates Kyra Wilson, the newly elected Grand Chief, and looks forward to their leadership in advancing First Nations priorities.
This transition follows the passing of Grand Chief Cathy Merrick in September 2024. The AMC honours her unwavering dedication to First Nations and her lasting impact on our collective advocacy. Today’s by-election is a reflection of her legacy as the Chiefs-in-Assembly select a leader to carry forward this important work.
