AMC Appoints Chief Betsy Kennedy as Spokesperson

Treaty One Territory, Manitoba – The Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs (AMC) Executive Council of Chiefs (ECC) convened earlier today and in respect for the recent passing of our Grand Chief Cathy Merrick, passed a motion directing the AMC Secretariat to have an interim spokesperson, instead of an acting Grand Chief. This interim spokesperson role will be in place until the services for the late Grand Chief are completed. Chief Betsy Kennedy has been appointed as the Spokesperson for the AMC during this time of mourning, and she will serve in this capacity until Grand Chief Cathy Merrick is laid to rest in her home nation of Pimicikamak Cree Nation and her Nation has had time to grieve.
Chief Betsy Kennedy, a respected leader and Chief of War Lake First Nation and Co-Chair of the AMC Womens Council, will be responsible for fulfilling this temporary role while ensuring that the voice and mandates of the AMC continue to be represented with the utmost respect.
