Starting tomorrow at 8am, the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs (AMC) is hosting its 30th Annual General Assembly (AGA) at the South Beach Casino in Brokenhead Ojibway First Nation in Treaty 1 territory.

The Assembly happens on July 18 and 19, 2018. This is the most important event the AMC hosts each summer. This is an opportunity for Chiefs in Manitoba to come together to discuss important issues and make plans for moving forward with a united voice. The theme for this year’s Assembly and annual report is “Legacy and Leadership.”
The following is on the agenda for the AGA:
Wednesday, July 18
- Opening ceremony with a grand entry and pipe ceremony
- Opening remarks with a review of the agenda
- Address to the First Nations leadership by Treaty 3 Grand Chief Francis Kavanaugh
- Presentation by Elder Harry Bone of the AMC Elders’ Council looking at an Elder’s perspective on “Legacy and Leadership”
- Tabling of the AMC annual report and financial statement
- Reports from AMC’s mandated organizations:
- AFN Regional Chief Candidates Forum
- AFN National Chief Candidates Forum
Thursday, July 19
- Opening remarks and recap of previous day’s agenda
- Report from the AFN Chiefs’ Committee on Governance Renewal
- Proposed Constitutional amendments
- Open discussion: Recognition on Rights Framework
- AFN Regional Chief election
- Announcement and honouring ceremony for the AFN Regional Chief
- Closing and retiring of eagle staff
