Information Update RE Special Meeting of the Chiefs-in-Assembly

Treaty One Territory, Manitoba – At a meeting on March 30, 2022, the Executive Council of Chiefs resolved to postpone the April 2022 General Assembly. The Executive Council of Chiefs called a special Chiefs-in-Assembly to take place in May 2022 pursuant to the notice provisions required by the Constitution of the AMC. Details and formal notice of this meeting will be provided to all Chiefs-in-Assembly once a time and location has been finalized.

 

On the agenda for the special Chiefs-in-Assembly will be a vote of non-confidence regarding Grand Chief Arlen Dumas. The request for a non-confidence vote was brought before the Executive Council of Chiefs by members of the Chiefs-in-Assembly. The Chiefs-in-Assembly wish to vote determine whether Grand Chief Arlen Dumas should continue in his position as Grand Chief, as soon as possible.

 

The Constitution of the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs outlines a code of conduct for elected officials, including the Grand Chief. Grand Chief Arlen Dumas will have the opportunity to address the Chiefs-in-Assembly prior to the vote taking place.

 

The formal workplace investigation regarding the allegations against Grand Chief Arlen Dumas will continue. The non-confidence vote will take place regardless of the results of the investigation.

 

Given the nature of this matter, no interviews or further statements will be offered at this time. The AMC will endeavour to provide timely updates in an ongoing manner when reasonably possible.
