Treaty One Territory, Manitoba – On July 24th, 2024, the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs (AMC) held its 36th Annual General Assembly which included Elections for the roles of AMC Grand Chief and AFN Regional Chief. Our Assembly was held on Waywayseecappo First Nation Lands located just north of Brandon, MB. The election was conducted by Stephanie Connors. For the position of AMC Grand Chief, there was only 1 round of voting by Manitoba Chiefs in attendance. The candidates for AMC Grand Chief included: George Kemp, Cathy Merrick, and Darrell N. Shorting.
In the first round of voting, 54 votes were cast, these were the results:
- George Kemp received 9 votes
- Cathy Merrick received 35 votes
- Darrell N. Shorting received 10 votes
