Treaty One Territory, Manitoba – The Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs (AMC) Grand Chief Arlen Dumas is today issuing the following statement on the need for immediate action to address accountability in the RCMP. With the release this past weekend of video evidence at Chief Allan Adam’s press conference, the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs further emboldens its previous support of Chief Adam, his family, and the Athabasca Chipewyan of Treaty 8.

Grand Chief Dumas stated, “This type of procedural manipulation to deny wrongdoing and avoid police accountability dehumanizes our people which, in turn, veil the predation and victimization of our women. An alleged expired vehicle insurance and license, as described by Chief Adam, should never be met with physical assault by law enforcement agencies when all that is needed is a simple fine and warning.”
